Rick Alvarez Writerand Producer
Rick Alvarez has been partnered with Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans and Keenen Ivory Wayans at Wayans Bros. Productions since 1998. Since joining the company, Alvarez has developed Scary Movie, co-executive produced Scary Movie 2, and produced White Chicks, Little Man and Dance Flick. A HAUNTED HOUSE is Alvarez’s first writing credit and represents the first produced project that he and Marlon Wayans have completed under their new production banner. Alvarez is currently executive producing a new series for BET called Second Generation Wayans that will begin airing in February 2013. After developing and co-writing a pilot for ABC in 2011, Alvarez is developing a comedy series starring Marlon Wayans for CBS Productions. Recently, Alvarez added several non-scripted television projects to his resume. He is executive producing a comedy competition series for the CW and an action competition series with Mark Burnett called Humans Vs. Zombies.
Alvarez came into the entertainment industry as a lawyer graduating from Hastings College of the Law. Following short stints in the mailroom at Abrams Artists Agency and the William Morris Agency, Alvarez quickly found success on the production side of the business. While at Ufland Productions, he developed the acclaimed movies One True Thing directed by Carl Franklin and starring Meryl Streep and Renee Zellwegger as well as Snow Falling On Cedars directed by Scott Hicks and starring Ethan Hawke. Soon after, Alvarez ran the creative department at indie stalwart CineTel Films where he developed and produced nearly a dozen independent movies including Carried Away directed by Bruno Barreto and A Rumor of Angels directed by Peter O’Fallon and starring Vanessa Redgrave.
