Debra graduated from Brandeis University (Waltham, Massachusetts, USA).

Following undergraduate training, Debra Messing went on to earn Master's degree in drama from New York University and in England, she belonged to the European British Studio Group of London program, where she spent half of her junior year studying in London’s prestigious B.E.S.G.L. program, which featured dramatic arts teachers recruited from various distinguished institutions such as the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, Cambridge University and Oxford University.

1990 Upon graduating summa cum laude from Brandeis, Messing was accepted into New York University’s elite Graduate Acting Program and received her master of fine arts degree. Messing received a scholarship for the University of New York (NYU). 

1993 Debra Messing received an award for her role in Perestroika. 

1994 She played a part in NYPD Blues

1995 Debra Messing first appeared in movies in “Paseo por las Nubes”, de Alfonso Arau, with the actor Keanu Reeves. 

1995-1997 She played the first role on the FOX TV series Ned and Stacey

1996 Debra Messing was the guest star in two chapters of the show Seinfeld. 

1998 Messing played the main role on the dramatic series Prey.  The director Woody Allen offered her to play a small role on his film "Celebrity". 

1998, June: She is invited by the director James Burrows  to participate on the now famous series Will and Grace, with Eric McCormack. 

1999  Will and Grace received the People's Choice Award. 

2000 Will and Grace, with Debra Messing and Eric McCormack received the Emmy Award and was nominated to the Golden Globe Award. 

2001 Messing received the TV Guides Award to the best actress. 

2003 After being nominated for Emmy Awards as Outstanding Lead Actress in 2000, 2001 and 2002, Debra Messing won the Award in 2003. She has also received five Golden Globe nominations, two SAG nominations, two People’s Choice nominations, two American Comedy Award nominations and won a TV Guide Award for her performance as Grace.

2003 She acted in a film  The Mothman Prophecies, with Richard Gere. And she will star in her first lead film role in the romantic comedy, “Something Borrowed” with Dermot Mulroney

2003  The American Actress Debra Messing gave birth to a son, Roman Walker Zelman, in Los Angeles, weighing 5lbs 14oz.
