Bjorn Turoque

Dan Crane, a/k/a Björn Türoque, is a writer, musician, and the second best air guitarist in the United States, 2005. He is also the #1 air guitarist on the East Coast, and was ranked 8th in the world in 2005. He has competed in ten official air guitar competitions since 2003 and come in 2nd place in five of them.

Crane just completed work on his forthcoming tell-all air guitar memoir, To Air is Human: The Rise and Fall of Bjorn Turoque--The True Tale of One Man’s Quest to be the World’s Greatest Air Guitarist, for Riverhead Books (to be published in August 2006).

As the founder and emcee of monthly AIREOKE™ parties first launched in 2003, Crane has seen more than his fair share of the air. He’s encouraged air novices to get up play air guitar for the first time; he’s led 14:08 Aireoke All-Star jams to the live version of “Free Bird;” he’s even witnessed an air guitarist defecating in a pizza box to the Black Flag song, “I Don’t Care.”

In April of 2005, Crane presented a lecture titled, Air Guitar: There’s No ‘There’ There. Or Is There? at the Experience Music Project museum in Seattle

Since completing his rock memoir, Crane has retired from official competition to become an Ambassador of Air and now spends his time emceeing competitions and spreading the Gospel of Airness wherever he goes.

His television appearances (as Bjorn Turoque, air guitarist) include: Last Call with Carson Daly (NBC), Fox & Friends (Fox), When Metal Ruled the World (VH1), and clips on CNN, CBS News, and various other news media outlets.

When he is not trying to achieve or inspire airness in others, Crane writes about music, food and culture for Slate.com, The New York Times, the LA Times and TimeOut New York. He also plays bass and is a lead singer in the faux French band Nous Non Plus (formerly Les Sans Culottes), whose debut record spent 4 weeks in the top 10 of the CMJ college radio charts, peaking at #6.

Both Dan and Björn look forward to rocking you in the near future.
