About
Notable for her performances in close to two dozen Hungarian films of the 1930s and 1940s, she is even more well remembered for her role in rescuing Hungarian Jews from Nazi forces during the Holocaust. For this important work, she received an Israeli title reserved for non-Jews who came to the aid of Jews: Righteous Among the Nations.
Family
Born Katalin Kanczler, she grew up in Budapest, Hungary, as one of eight children born to Ferenc Kanczler and Rozalia Lorinc. In the early 1930s, she was very briefly married to Rezso Varga.
